When CSF released the Gen 2 B58 "Super Manifold" for G-Chassis BMW and Supra, it was a smash hit (CSF #8200/8200B/8200C). It quickly became the go-to manifold for racers and enthusiasts looking to get the most out of their B58. While the Gen 2 B58 "Super Manifold" held up amazingly to countless 1000hp builds, customers still wanted more. CSF is proud to offer the "Race X" Charge-Air-Cooler manifold. Another industry leading design by the trio of CSF, VF Engineering, and Custom Plenum Creations.

The Race X Manifold has many of the features and specs as the Super Manifold in addition to some new race focused features. You can read about the development of the CSF Gen 2 B58 Super Manifold in our original press release.

Why Upgrade?

The Race X Manifold is designed for high level motorsports competition and racing applications. The limits of the Super Manifold (CSF #8200) are very high and more than enough for many enthusiasts, tuners, and racers. However, those looking to push their Gen 2 B58s to the maximum asked for more. Race X features a 25% larger core, additional parameter ports, and an optimized water flow system. The manifold can be used in either dual or single pass configurations and features a new front port that has been optimized for ice box setups. This is the most versatile and largest manifold available on the market and has been race tested on some of the fastest B58 powered drag cars in the world.

Design & Engineering

The massive amount of research and development that went into the Super Manifold paid dividends when developing the Race X Manifold. That combined with all of the real world testing performed by race teams and tuners, CSF had all the information needed to begin the process of designing this brand new manifold. The main goals when designing the new manifold were to increase air flow and cooling capacity. Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software CSF's team of engineers worked tirelessly on producing a manifold that would meet the demands of the most serious competitive drivers while offering the most features possible.

Proven Results

Several prototype Race X Manifolds were tested throughout 2023 on 3 different vehicles. @peppa_aka_skull's A90 Supra, @mrnohesi's G20 M340i, and Titan Motorsports' A90 Supra. All 3 of these vehicles, tuned by Visconti Tuning, are purpose built drag cars that boast impressive power and 1/4 mile times. The feedback received from these B58 platform leaders led to many improvements and refinements that CSF is proud to bring to the market with the Race X Manifold.

Peppa Skull's A90 Supra

If you follow drag racing you've probably seen Peppa's yellow A90 Supra in person or on social media. Peppa has been racing and upgrading his Supra for years and has broken/set several records in that time. In November of 2023, he broke into the 7's with a time of 7.9 seconds at 176mph in the quarter mile.

Titan Motorsports' Supra

One of the biggest names in Supra drag racing, Titan Motorsports has been a major player in the inline 6 world for years. They regularly compete in some of the biggest drag racing competitions in the US and know a thing or two about making a fast car. Their Supra is pushing over 1000whp and consistently does 7's in the quarter mile.

NOHESI's BMW G20 M340i

Normally when you see a fast BMW sedan, it's an M car. Mr. Nohesi (Andre) likes to do things a little differently and has been pushing the B58 platform extremely hard. His record breaking and holding M340 (8.8 seconds) boasts over 1000hp. Andre's car, tuned by Visconti Tuning, has been a key partner to CSF as his vehicle has made more than 300 passes on the prototype Race X Manifold since TX2K 2023.

Features

Biggest/Best Core in the Industry

Once you get into that 1000hp+ range on the B58, most aftermarket manifolds have reached their limits in terms of flow and cooling capacity. To resolve both limitations, CSF increased the size of the core by 25% over the #8200. The larger core has 15 cooling rows (vs 12 rows on the CSF #8200) and keeps up with the air flow demand while also increasing the cooling capacity.

Dual or Single Pass

CSF specifically designed the front water end plate of the manifold to allow for a single pass setup or ice box setup. This -16 ORB bung found on the front water plate is the largest available on any aftermarket B58 manifold (competitor's unit uses a -12 fitting). CSF has teamed up with industry leading fitting and hose experts Brown and Miller (BRMS) to optimize the water flow out of the front plate. CSF recommends using the following BRMS fittings with a maximum fitting angle of 120 degrees.

BRMS is recommended by CSF because there are no flow restrictions on their fittings and are highly regarded as the best in the motorsport industry.

Top Feed Port Injection with Included Fuel Rail

The CSF Manifold includes an extruded fuel rail which attaches to the outlet side of the manifold. The -8AN fuel rail comes with a -8AN internal hex plug fitting. This allows you to run a returnless fuel system or a full loop setup.

Individual Nitrous / Methanol Injector Ports

A 1/8 NPT port on each cylinder runner can be used for nitrous or methanol injection. The CSF manifold allows for maximum spray control and even spray distribution throughout the engine.

A nitrous system set-up specifically for the CSF manifold is available from industry leaders Nitrous Express through Titan Motorsports.

Expanded Vacuum and Parameter Pad

CSF has included a port pad into the machining of the tank on the manifold inlet side. The ports can be used to measure additional parameters or as an additional vacuum source. The Race X Manifold has two additional 1/4 NPT ports to go along with the standard three 1/8 NPT ports. Each port can be plugged with the included hardware kit if they are not used.

Easy Access to Spin-Off Oil Filter

CSF incorporated a recessed design towards the back of the manifold that allows easy access to the spin-off oil filter. This means you do not have to remove your manifold every time you want to change your oil.

Air Inlet Divider

The inclusion of an air divider welded into the inlet side tank of the manifold is another exclusive feature of the CSF manifold. With the length of the manifold, the engineers at VF Engineering wanted to make sure that the volume and velocity of air was consistent to all cylinders. The inlet has an air divider to ensure the best possible airflow and equal cooling performance to each cylinder. Airflow to the back of the manifold (cylinders four, five, and six) should be equal to the airflow to the front of the manifold (cylinders one, two, and three) for the best possible performance.

Breather Ports for Inlet/Outlet of Water Tanks

Two -4AN ports are located on the top of the back water plate. These ports can be used to measure inlet/outlet water temps as well as used as breather ports to help in the bleeding procedure. The hardware kit includes the -14AN hex plugs. Please follow OEM BMW/Toyota bleeding procedure which takes roughly 15 minutes to complete.

Slotted Mounting Tabs

Positioning the manifold in the engine bay is fairly straightforward. However, it can be a little frustrating to get the bolt holes on the intake side mounting tabs lined up perfectly. After doing a few test fittings CSF realized this could be resolved by slotting the mounting tabs. This allows the bolts to be installed before final positioning adjustments and makes installation a bit easier.

Thermal Rejection Competition Spacer

Made from KIYLEX®, a patented revolutionary high-performance final stage polymer. KIYLEX® is as strong as aluminum and can withstand temperatures up to 1100°F. This spacer is designed to insulate the intake manifold from conductive heat transfer from the cylinder head. This thermal barrier reduces manifold temperatures which helps lower Intake Air Temperatures (IATs), improve charge air cooler efficiency, and combats heat soak. CSF is the exclusive distributor for the KIYLEX® Intake Manifold Spacer for the B58 Motor.

The included Thermal Rejection Spacer is especially useful for Drag/Roll-Racing Events where vehicles typically sit in staging lanes in-between racing. This causes extreme heat soak to the liquid-to-air manifold as there is not sufficient airflow passing over the front mount heat exchanger when the car is idling (which is responsible for cooling the charge air fluid that runs through the manifold). This causes the starting IATs on subsequent runs to be higher than on the initial run.

The CSF Manifold is made from Billet Aluminum and 100% TIG Welded for strength, which allows it to be able to withstand higher boost pressures compared to the OEM plastic manifold. Aluminum has higher thermal conductivity than plastic resulting in a higher rate of heat transfer between the cylinder head and manifold. Adding the Thermal Rejection Spacer reduces heat transfer between the two metal components (cylinder head & manifold). The spacer absorbs the heat from the cylinder head and dissipates it rather than transferring it to the manifold.

Hardware Kit, Well Thought-Out Instruction Manual

The supplied hardware kit includes all of the brackets, bolts, washers, and CNC machined fittings for installation. This is an industry-exclusive feature to the CSF x VF Engineering design, and was extremely difficult to not only engineer, but to manufacture as well. An array of items come vacuum packaged with corresponding letters listed on an easy to use Bill-of-Materials List (BOM) along with exploded diagrams and a simple order of operation procedure list to follow for installation. Made with mechanics, technicians, racers and DIY enthusiasts in mind. This is a Racing Product and intended to be installed only by a skilled and experience technician who is familiar with the B58 engine platform

Dyno Testing

Titan Motorsports was kind enough to do some testing on their A90 Supra before and after the installation of the Race X Manifold. They have been running the CSF #8200 Super Manifold for a couple years now. The 1st run (red) is the dyno sheet from the setup they have been running in competition since May of 2023. The second pull (blue) was after the installation of the Race X Manifold in early October of 2023. The ~34whp and ~82 ft-lbs gains were achieved with just swapping to the new Race X Manifold.

This was a strictly A/B test without any other hardware or tuning adjustments made to compensate for the larger volume of the Race-X Manifold.

CSF #8400B - Thermal Dispersion Black

CSF's most popular custom finish, Thermal Black Heat Dispersion Cerakote is now available as a standard finish option. This offers faster turn around time for orders and some dealers/distributors stocking this finish option.

Thermal Dispersant/Dispersion Coatings are submicron coatings with extremely high thermal conductivity. Due to their density and chemical composition they offer highly efficient heat transfer. In the case of a coated heat exchanger like an intercooler, the higher thermal conductivity of the coating helps draw heat to the surface of the part.

CSF offers the widest variety of custom finishes in the industry. From color matched powder coating to high tech Thermal Dispersion Coatings, the options are limitless.

Powder Coating: Powder coating is available in almost any color imaginable with finish options ranging from full gloss to crinkle texture. You can even opt for accent colors, different colors for certain components like fuel rails (when applicable).

DLC (Diamond Like Coating): DLC Coating stands for diamond-like carbon coating, and is a nanocomposite coating that has unique properties of natural diamond low friction, high hardness, and high corrosion resistance. These coatings are the most expensive available, but can offer some very unique finish options that will provide the greatest durability.

CSF assumes that all users of this specific manifold will be running port injection. Because of this, the (qty. 6) port injection block-off bungs that come with our standard 8200 / 8300 manifolds are not included in this kit. Mild Hybrid Models (48V systems) will require significant modifications to install. This includes an additional 8200S spacer (sold separately), shaving down the humps in the casting on the cylinder head, and shaving down the alternator.

The data shows how much more efficient the Race X Manifold is at lowering Intake Air Temperatures (IATs). The other supra has a larger and more efficient turbo which should produce lower IATs. It also has methanol injection which should also further improve IATs. Even with these disadvantages on Peppa's Supra, the Race X Manifold is a staggering 136% more efficient at cooling the charge air. The data above from Peppa's car (tuned by Visconti Tuning) resulted in a 1/4 mile pass of 8.06 seconds.

Another example showing how efficient the Race X Manifold is compared to the competition. This test was conducted on the same day, same track, same tuner, and under almost the exact same conditions. Matt's A90 Supra has a larger turbo and methanol injection. Even with these disadvantages on Peppa's Supra, the Race X Manifold is 121% more efficient at cooling the charge air.

Pocono Raceway

Peppa ran an EOS manifold for a short time in 2023 and collected data during roll races at Pocono Raceway. The changes to the Supra between these tests was just the EOS to CSF Race X Manifold swap. All other modifications were exactly the same.

FIBERGLASS SHIPPING POLICY:
Our shipping department takes the same time and effort in packaging your products as our engineers do in designing them. However, damage can still occur in shipping. Most of these damaged items can be easily repaired during install and or in paint prep. If this is not the case, the buyer must inspect the packaging and the products carefully upon receiving them, then accept the shipment and if need be, notate any damages and irregularities, such as crushed, torn, punctured, or broken parts on both the packaging and the product, on the freight bill or receipt at the driver’s presence. A signed receipt without any notation releases the carrier as well as SDHQ from any further damage claim. Discovery of damages after a clear delivery becomes the responsibility of the customer. The buyer must notify SDHQ of any damages within 24 hours. In cases of damage with proper notion on receipt, the carrier will determine whether to pay for the repair cost or replacement value of the damaged goods after damage inspection. Replacement value is the amount the buyer paid to SDHQ and is not negotiable. All disputes about the settlement amount shall be addressed with the carrier. SDHQ, under no circumstances, shall be liable for the damaged product or for subsequent settlement of the claim with the carrier.

SHIPPING POLICY
There is a chance that your cart will display no shipping charges. Certain items populate a standard shipping rate, others are advertised as free shipping to the lower 48, and others (often multiple parts or larger orders) may not show a rate. There is nothing more to do on your end if it is free or flat-rate shipping.

If your order does require a shipping cost/option, our shipping department will determine the shipping charges, and we will email you the cost/options for your order to ship out. Once you receive that email, there will be a link to pay for the charges, or you can cancel the order and be fully refunded.

OFFERS OF FREE SHIPPING:
All free ground shipping offers only apply to shipping addresses in the continental United States. This notification will appear above the product information and on the cart page.

FLAT RATE GROUND SHIPPING:
Some products have a standard ground shipping policy if you require the product faster, please notify us in the notes section during checkout.

PROCESSING YOUR ORDER:
If shipping costs need to be calculated/added, you will be emailed with an updated link to your order. Your updated order will include your order's shipping costs and be your original order with the letter "A" at the end. While checking for updates on your order, please add an "A" to the end of your order number, as your order number without the "A" will show canceled since it has been superseded.

FIBERGLASS SHIPPING POLICY:
Our shipping department takes the same time and effort in packaging your products as our engineers do in designing them. However, damage can still occur in shipping. Most of these damaged items can be easily repaired during install and or in paint prep. If this is not the case, the buyer must inspect the packaging and the products carefully upon receiving them, then accept the shipment and if need be, notate any damages and irregularities, such as crushed, torn, punctured, or broken parts on both the packaging and the product, on the freight bill or receipt at the driver’s presence. A signed receipt without any notation releases the carrier as well as SDHQ from any further damage claim. Discovery of damages after a clear delivery becomes the responsibility of the customer. The buyer must notify SDHQ of any damages within 24 hours. In cases of damage with proper notion on receipt, the carrier will determine whether to pay for the repair cost or replacement value of the damaged goods after damage inspection. Replacement value is the amount the buyer paid to SDHQ and is not negotiable. All disputes about the settlement amount shall be addressed with the carrier. SDHQ, under no circumstances, shall be liable for the damaged product or for subsequent settlement of the claim with the carrier.
