For this build we needed serious performance that could handle off-road terrain, but not lose it’s road manners. We went with ICON
3.0 Front Shocks & CDC’s as well as billet upper control arms. In the rear we did ICON 2.5 shocks & Deaver Leaf springs. ICON suspension systems & shocks provide adjustable dampening control, and our customers have only great feedback about thier products.
Supercharged! Suspension was a key factor considering we installed a TRD Pro Supercharger, achieving about 500 horse power to the rear wheels! We also went with an AFE Cat Back exhaust system and AFE headers for peak performance.
To complete the build we installed ICON Alloy Six Speed wheels & 35″ Toyo Open Country M/T’s.
This was one of our baddest Tundra builds to date! Get the full break down here. Or give us a call 480-633-2929 for any questions about the products on this build.
Our fully tig welded, chromoly off-road bumpers offer the highest level of quality, precision fit and superior functionality in a low profile design. Easter Jeep Safari is one of the countries most unique off-road events. Set in the majestic terrain of Moab Utah, this week long adventure allows the four-wheeling of some of the countries most beautiful scenery and rugged terrain. Moab is truly the ideal setting for enthusiasts to enjoy the capabilities of thier off-road vehicles and for off-road manufactures to put thier products to the ultimate test. With rugged terrain and hundreds of miles of trails, it is no wonder the event keep growing in popularity year after year. Once again SDHQ was proud to be apart of EJS.
The entire week is filled with day long runs for almost every level of skill, from rookies to pros. On Wednesday we ventured out on the trails with the ICON Vehicle Dynamics crew and put our ICON suspension to the test. We were impressed with the handling of the suspension over some of the harshest & most technical terrain. It was a great day exploring and rock crawling. Thanks to the folks at ICON for bringing us along as they continue to test thier products in extreme conditions. We are proud to carry thier entire line of suspension & shocks. For more information visit our website.

When a customer comes to us with a special request, we figure out how to make it happen. SDHQ is not your normal custom shop, of course we enjoying doing suspension, wheels, tires, but the unusual projects are exciting and we love a challenge. This customer came to us requesting that we turn his 2015 Ford Super Duty long bed dually to a short bed, so we made it happen and completely overhauled the whole truck. We’re pretty sure there is no other truck in the world like this one! Check out this #SDHQoriginal.
Chopping frames and making custom sized beds is nothing new for SDHQ but this was the first time we got to do it on a Super Duty dually. A job like like this is not for your average shop. It takes skill and very trained technicians to pull this off while preserving the integrity and strength of the frame, it’s components and maintaining factory ride. We accomplished exactly this
We knew we needed a suspension system that would improve performance and achieve the aggressive look we were going for. We went with Icon Suspension components on the front and rear. The Icon Stage 2 Coilover Suspension System with the Icon 4 Link System up front enhances the articulation of the front suspension and improves handling of the truck by eliminating the large radius arm bushing and replacing it with competition grade spherical bearings in each link. The new components far out perform stock yet the truck rides smooth and has a stock feel. We think the truck turned out pretty bad!
ICON Vehicle Specific shocks are designed to provide superior dampening control that helps prevent harsh bottoming out and controls the suspension when compressing at high velocity. These shocks allow for a defined tune and provide a smooth ride on or off-road.
This truck called for serious lighting and we equipped it with our SDHQ Exclusive A-Pillar Mounts and all the Vision-X lighting we could cleanly fit. We mounted Vision X Light cannons up top on the A-Pillars and Vision X LPX light bars, Vision X PX fog lights in the SDHQ Custom front bumper/ aluminum valance insert for a flush, clean yet extremely functional set up. Check out more Vision X lighting on our site.
A truck like this needed an aggressive, high performing wheel and tire package. 20″ Fuel Off-Road Maverick wheels with 37″ Toyo RT Tires were the perfect combo.

Winning The Mint 400 has been a long time coming for Rob MacCachren, decades actually. MacCachren’s long spanning highly impressive off-road racing career includes over 200 wins, including 4 Baja 1000’s, but winning the “Great Amercan Off-Road Race” has eluded the racer since 1984. His victory at the 2017 Mint 400 was “finally getting the monkey off his back” as he put it. This year’s race was close, filled with surprising lead changes throughout the day. Jason Voss led most of the day, but MacCahren was able to get by him and secure the 1st place by just a few minutes and Andy McMillin just behind for 3rd. This years epic Mint 400 was not only an exciting race but a full 5 days of events leading up to the race. It is one of the biggest off-road events of the year that brings out thousands of vendors, racers, companies and spectators to Las Vegas and we are glad to be apart of it every year!
The Mint 400 kicked off with the parade down the famous Las Vegas strip as 130 off-road vehicles lined up and took to the streets to make quite the entrance. It is one of the very few times the iconic street is even shut down. Everything from trick trucks, 6100’s, trophy lites, vintage class trucks and even Ultra 4 trucks were represented. Thousands lined the streets just to catch a glance of the trucks and watch them rumble by. This is great event to kick off the Mint and get he public involved in the off-road culture. An event not to be missed, and if you did there’s always next year!
The Terrible Herbst team took home the coveted win as the best pit crew at the 2017 Pit Crew Challenge presented by Method Race Wheels. After a day of qualifying this is a great event in downtown Las Vegas where spectators can meet & greet the drivers, get autographs signed and watch as the pit crews show off their skills.
The Odyssey Battery Mint 400 Tech & Contingency completely took over Fremont street again this year, with over 300 race vehicles, thousands of crew members, vendors and spectators. There is truly nothing else like it and every off-road enthusiast should experience the spectacle at least once in their lives. The all day events allows every day people to see these machines up close and immerse themselves in the heart of off-road culture.
ON SITE RACE SUPPORT
And while Contingency & Tech is all fun and games SDHQ is hard at work providing the teams and racers with our full on-site support. We keep on hand everything from helmets prewired with PCI Race Radios
, tools, equipment, fire extinguishers down to last minute fittings. We take Tech and Contingency seriously and help the teams meet all requirements to keep them in the race. Next year stop by our race support trailer and pick up some official SDHQ swag, or if you cant wait..grab it here
This year our friends over at Camburg Racing had an exciting guest driver join them. Jay Leno completed the first 100 miles in the Camburg 7301 truck. We’re not sure who was more excited, all the spectators that stopped and took selfies with him out on Fremont, or Leno himself. Either way it’s great see more celebrities bringing attention to the off-road industry and we hope to see him next year!
Speaking which The Mint 400 was excited the Diesel Brothers decided to join the race and when they needed an emergency part, we were able to get it to them track side. Desert racing is a great equalizer and it doesn’t matter who you are, things go wrong, parts are needed and SDHQ will be there to help! Look forward to seeing more of these guys racing too
We want to give a shout out to a couple SDHQ affiliated race teams who always represent us well and put forth great effort all year long at all of their races. We are glad to be able to partner up with these guys, and as everyone knows desert racing is filled with wins, losses, and just a bunch of craziness in between. Go follow our friends atGoodall Racing and TPF Racing
and keep up with their racing adventures.
Overall it was another successful, action packed event. We want to congratulate not just the winners, but everyone who helped produce and who participated. We have watched the off-road industry grow and gain momentum over the past 18 years and we are glad to be apart of it. Here’s to another year!
The 2017 King of the Hammers is considered to be the toughest one day race in the world and is the largest off-road event in North America. This year’s race was epic to say the least. In a race where just finishing is an accomplishment the Campbell’s showed everyone the skill and determination it took to take the top spots. The father & son duo battled each other throughout the day but dad Shannon Campbell would ultimately be crowned King with son Wayland placing second by less than 30 seconds. SDHQ would like to congratulate the entire Campbell team and crew on their well deserved success.
Once again, SDHQ had the honor of providing race support to all the racers and their crews over the course of the week out at Hammers. We can’t tell you how many times a frantic racer or crew member came to our booth looking for a single part that broke and it could have ruined the whole trip. Nothing makes us happier than seeing the look of relief on their faces when we tell them we have it. That’s why we love coming out to the races, we love the sport and the hard working people that love it as much as us.
This was one of our busiest years yet and we stayed busy everyday providing parts and equipment to keep everyone in the game. We make sure to stay on top of race requirements and rule changes. We stock up on inventory to make ensure everyone passes tech. In addition to providing race support we had the pleasure of meeting with some of the estimated 40,000 spectators that came from all over the world just to experience King of The Hammers. This event is truly one of a kind, and we look forward to coming out for years to come!
In addition to on site race support we hosted a burger night to show our appreciation to our customers, fellow vendors and friends. We want to thank everyone that came out this year and look forward to seeing you guys all there next year! Keep up to date with all of our events on our Facebook & Instagram!
If you have never experienced The King of the Hammers it is definitely something that you need to cross off your bucket list, especially if you are an off-road enthusiast. Almost no other sporting event allows the spectator the accessibility and participation that this event does.
